The Buddha, having a length of 55 m (180 ft) and a height of 16 m (52 ft), is the second largest Buddha image in the world. It was believed to built in 994, during the reign of Mon King. The Buddha was lost after the destruction of Bago in 1757 and rediscovered under a cover of jungle growth in 188. Shwethalyaung Buddha is one of the most revered statues in Myanmar.
