Mrauk U, situated in Northern Rakhine State, is the capital of Mrauk-U Kingdom, the most important and powerful Rakhine Kingdom (from the 15th to the 18th centuries). Today Mrauk U is a small quiet town with a large number of pagodas and temples scattered all around. On almost every hill you will see sandstone pagodas in varying degrees.
